| The best way to get an idea of what you want to include in your classroom webpage is to take a look at what other teachers have done. I have divided up into different grade levels for elementary teachers. As you look at these pages, be sure to take notes on what you like, what you definitely don't like and of any ideas that you might use in your classroom webpage. Of course you can look at other webpages beside your grade level. |
|
After taking a look at these webpages, take a look at your notes. Make a list of topics that you would like to include. Feel Free to discuss with other teachers on what they are going to have on their classroom webpages. Homework: In the next session, bring to class with you an organized list of topics you would like to include on your webpage. For example, if you would like to have a welcome page be your first page, list the things you would like to include on your page. Here is an example of how you might want to organize your website.
Or for those who prefer an outline: Welcome to Ms. Ford's Class Webpage

| Before you download any clipart, scroll down to the bottom
of the webpage and make sure that it is not copyrighted. If it is,
you must ask the site's owner for permission to use his or her
backgrounds or pictures. Show common courtesy of other's graphics by
providing a link to their site (which will be learned how to do in the
next phase).

Download handout for Phase II here by right clicking on this link, "save target as."
|
Before proceeding there are a few "do's" and "don'ts" on creating a webpage. Here are a couple of examples of the "don'ts." See if you can tell why each website is classified as such. Click here after viewing the sample webpages.
Example I takes a very long time to download. Example II isn't easily read and far too many animations on the page. After keeping those things in mind, let's get started on yours! Now that you have a good idea of what you
would like to have on your classroom webpage, where can you find yours?
Hold your control key down on your keyboard. While holding that key down,
tap the letter "n". This will open up another browser window so that
you have two Internet Explorer windows open. Now you can "window" back
and forth between the two webpages. In the window you just opened,
click in the address bar, backspace the internet address that is currently in
there out and type in www.stonewall.fayette.k12.ky.us/teachers/
in the address bar. In the picture below, Stonewall's web address is in
the address bar. Without leaving any spaces, type in your last name, then /, and last name.htm. For example if my last name was Cress, I would type the following:: www.stonewall.fayette.k12.ky.us/teachers/cress/cress.htm Now press your enter key. Hey, there's my webpage! We need to do just one more thing before we start creating. Click on the following: FILE A box will appear that looks like your log
in box when you open your email. Something like this Get those creative juices flowing because it is now time to create your main page!
