The best way to get an idea of what you want to include in your classroom webpage is to take a look at what other teachers have done.  I have divided up into different grade levels for elementary teachers.  As you look at these pages, be sure to take notes on what you like,  what you definitely don't like and of any ideas that you might use in your classroom webpage.  Of course you can look at other webpages beside your grade level.

Teacher Web Pages

Sites for all to view

After taking a look at these webpages, take a look at your notes.  Make a list of topics that you would like to include.  Feel Free to discuss with other teachers on what they are going to have on their classroom webpages.

Homework:  In the next session, bring to class with you an organized list of topics you would like to include on your webpage.  For example, if you would like to have a welcome page be your first page, list the things you would like to include on your page.  Here is an example of how you might want to organize your website.

Or for those who prefer an outline:

Welcome to Ms. Ford's Class Webpage
Opening Page: Introduce my plans for the school year and myself
Page 2: Schedule of special classes
Page 3: List of school supplies
Page 4: Student of the week
Page 5: Suggested websites that our students will be using
Page 6: Field trip information
Page 7: Special Events
Page 8: Our special writers

Find the place in which you would like to save it (in class we used the drop down arrow at the top in the "save in" box and chose desktop (scroll to the top), Stonewall folder, your grade level folder, your teacher folder, and added a folder named graphics (we clicked on the folder at the top of the box, with a star on the corner, typed in the word graphics, pressed enter, then enter again.  the Graphics folder is now listed at the top of your "save in box")
  4. Press Enter
  5. Voila! It is saved!

Steps for downloading a background image:
  1. Right click ON the background
  2. Choose "save background as"

Phase II

Download handout for Phase II here by right clicking on this link, "save target as."

Before proceeding there are a few "do's" and "don'ts" on creating a webpage.  Here are a couple of examples of the "don'ts."  See if you can tell why each website is classified as such.

Example I        Example II

Click here after viewing the sample webpages.

Example I takes a very long time to download.  Example II isn't easily read and far too many animations on the page.  After keeping those things in mind, let's get started on yours!

Now that you have a good idea of what you would like to have on your classroom webpage, where can you find yours?  Hold your control key down on your keyboard.  While holding that key down, tap the letter "n". This will open up another browser window so that you have two Internet Explorer windows open. Now you can "window" back and forth between the two webpages. In the window you just opened, click in the address bar, backspace the internet address that is currently in there out and type in www.stonewall.fayette.k12.ky.us/teachers/ in the address bar.  In the picture below, Stonewall's web address is in the address bar.

Without leaving any spaces, type in your last name, then /, and last name.htm.  For example if my last name was Cress, I would type the following::

www.stonewall.fayette.k12.ky.us/teachers/cress/cress.htm

Now press your enter key.

Hey, there's my webpage!  We need to do just one more thing before we start creating.  Click on the following:
