Stonewall Elementary School
School-Based Decision Making Council
Meeting of Tuesday, August 24, 2004

Members present: David Ewen, Janie Griggs, Andrea Guise, Leslie LeBlanc and Bill Gatliff. Also in attendance was Mr. Ed McCaw.

The meeting was called to order at 5:35 PM in the Stonewall Library.

Agenda Item 1 – Review of Agenda

The council was in agreement of the prepared agenda.

Agenda Item 2 – Staffing for 2004-05

The enrollment figures were turned in on day 4. Our attendance allows adding a new primary teacher, a new intermediate teacher, and a new primary assistant. The grade levels with the highest number of students per teacher are kindergarten and 4th grade.

Action: Janie Griggs moved to add an additional Kindergarten teacher, 4th grade teacher, and kindergarten assistant based on the numbers after Day 4 enrollment. Andrea Guise seconded the motion, which was approved by consensus.

Special Education staffing was discussed. It was noted that if another teacher was needed, the teacher could work from room 12.

Mr. McCaw referred to the breakdown of available funds and purchases that have been made related to staffing. Mr. McCaw recommended that an intermediate assistant and a .3 cafeteria monitor be added.

Action: David Ewen moved to approve the recommendation made by Mr. McCaw. Janie Griggs seconded the motion, which was approved by consensus.

The process of creating the new classrooms will take place as follows:

-A letter will go home with the K and 4th grade students explaining to their parents the situation, and volunteers will be solicited.

-Students will be pulled to create the same composition as all of the other classes.

-Mr. McCaw will explain that once the decision is made, it will stand.

-The letter will go home by Friday.

The process of hiring will take place as follows:

-A list will be submitted to Support Services (Human Resources)

-Involuntary transfers will have the first option and if none are available, interviewing will begin

Agenda Item 3 – Allocation of space for 2004-05

The occupants of room 16 have moved to portable #38 and two special education teachers have moved to room 29. It was recommended that a Kindergarten class move to room 16 and a fourth grade class move to room 31.

Action: Andrea Guise moved to do the following:

move a Kindergarten class to room 16

place ESL and the Reading Tutor in P38

move Mrs. Prewitt and Mrs. Bartlett to room 29

move a 4th grade class to room 31

Leslie LeBlanc seconded the motion, which was approved by consensus.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:31 PM.
