PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
Professional Development (PD) shall consist of activities and experiences which enable educators to apply knowledge, understanding, skills, and abilities to achieve personal, professional, and organizational goals and to facilitate th learning of students. PD programs shall be designed to improve the instruction in the school.
ACTIVITIES
PD shall consist of the following activities with the prior approval of the PD committee:
Conferences
Workshops
Focused training in specific areas
Skill improvement through demonstrations, practice, feedback, or support
Research and development of instructional practices
Seminars
Skill development in parent-teacher conferencing
Train the trainer sessions
Facilitated planning and design sessions
Facilitated curriculum planning and alignment activities or any other activity or experience approved in advance by the SBDM Council.
MEMBERSHIP
The PD Committee shall consist of the PD Coordinator who serves as chair of the committee and teachers and parents selected by the principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The PD Committee shall develop and publish a schedule of available PD activities which support the goals of the Stonewall Consolidated Plan.
The PD Committee shall develop and maintain administrative procedures for the following activities:
Requests for professional development time and/or money
Approval and/or certification requirements and notification
Documentation requirements
Refunds and/or reimbursement practices
Any other action which may be required related to PD
These procedures and any subsequent modifications will become effective upon approval by the SBDM Council. By and upon approval of these procedures, the SBDM Council delegates authority to approve PD expenditures and certify professional development credit to the PD Coordinator in conjunction with the PD Committee.
The PD Coordinator in conjunction with the PD Committee shall administer the PD procedures as approved by the SBDM Council.
The PD Coordinator in conjunction with the PD Committee will approve and certify individual requests according to the approved procedures and applicability of the request to the goals and objectives of the Stonewall Consolidated Plan. The PD Coordinator in conjunction with the PD Committee may refer any action (including, but not limited to: granting PD credit; expenditures of PD funds; and organizing PD training) to the SBDM Council for clarification or resolution when in the opinion of the Committee or Coordinator, there is not a clear application of a PD procedure or a Stonewall goal or objective.
The PD Coordinator will prepare a budget at the start of the school year which shall include all planned funding, all currently available funding, current monthly expenditures by category and total yearly expenditures by category. This shall be reported to the SBDM Council monthly.
The PD Committee will submit a report on all PD activity to the SBDM Council on a monthly basis.
The PD Coordinator will work with the faculty and staff to insure that all PD training requirements are met in a timely manner.
The PD Coordinator will insure that all actions are done within state, district, and KERA regulations.
