When the vacancy of the principal occurs, this policy will be followed:

Assist the Superintendent’s office in appointing an interim principal, should the vacancy occur during the school year.

Training by Central Office on interviewing techniques.

Develop questions for interviewing candidates based on candidates characteristics from item #3 above.

After receiving a list of subsequent lists of recommended applicants from the Superintendent, the Council will schedule a series of special meetings to review the applicants and conduct necessary interviews. All interviews and discussions of candidates shall be conducted in closed session.

At the completion of interviews and discussions, the Council will choose a candidate to recommend to the Superintendent, and the Council chair shall report the selection to the Superintendent, who completes the hiring process.

If the Council is unable to make a selection within the timelines set out in Board Policy 02.4244, the Council shall request the Board to grant a waiver of that timeline for a specified period of time.
