The
Professional Development Committee reviewed reading goals in Stonewall’s
Consolidated Plan. The committee agreed with the current goals and strategies
with the following exceptions / recommendations:
- Increase
support (materials, training, etc.) for regular teachers with ESL students
remaining in the classroom for the majority of the instructional day
- Increase
the number of fifth grade intermediate assistants from 1 (for 4 classrooms)
to 2 (for 4 classrooms). This recommendation is due to additional demands on
current assistant’s time (ESL, daily IEP collaboration, testing
accommodations, etc.) that minimize time available for other students
needing additional reading instruction
- Decrease
classroom pull-outs during instructional time for students experiencing
difficulty (below grade level in reading, below grade level in math, or
those students with poor or failing grades)
These
recommendations were presented to Charlie Hardy, PSA,
