*Full Faculty To: Teachers From: Professional Development Committee RE: 2001-2001 PD Plans The committee considered the following requests/input when planning professional development: 1. Time requested to work on orientation and implementation using current materials such as reading textbooks and orientation time for newly adopted social studies materials (special area teachers may want to use this time together or independently to match curriculum and materials). 2. Two reading presenters were recommended and considered, but not scheduled (one due to cost and one due to author’s suggestion that program was better suited to upper grades only). 3. School-wide discipline management program (Champs) was considered, but eliminated due to lack of interest / need. Additionally, it was decided that grades 3-5 would participate in Second Steps (Character Ed) since K-2 completed this last summer. 4. Stonewall’s Consolidated Plan which focuses on increasing reading, writing, and math performances through the use of technology, school-wide programs, etc. and meeting diverse needs was considered with all inservices. 5. By not spending $1,500-$2,500 on a single presenter, more money may be available for those requesting to attend conferences (currently $500 limit per trip). It also increases the possibility for future stipends for up to 6 hours over the required 24 hours (to be decided annually). 6. Request to focus on meeting needs (within the classroom) of ADHD students was considered (refer to inservice with Richard Welch) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: If you are unable to attend scheduled inservices, you have several options: 1. Complete inservice as an independent training (strategy one) This works well with the first 3 scheduled inservices. See the PD rep for specific questions. We will have a collection of KET Videos training videos that can also be used. 2. Get together with a group or your grade level to orient yourself with current resources (Strategy III)
3. Substitute another inservice or hours. See the PD rep for specific questions. 4. Request forms for independent and group PD hours are located on the PD board across from the mailboxes
