Agenda: Discuss first grade zoo trip & Math Textbook adoption

Discussion on each item:

First grade zoo trip was previously put on hold until more information could be obtained concerning the cost of the trip.  The cost of the trip was lowered approximately $7.00 per student after some changes in bussing had been made.

All grade levels had recommended Harcourt for our next Math textbook series; however, there were two samples that had been sent to the school from Harcourt, a 2002 copyright and a 2004 copyright.  Being that the 2004 copyrighted edition was not on the state bid list, it was a concern of this committee that books were not guaranteed at a certain price for the whole adoption cycle and they weren’t guaranteed to be available for replacements during the whole adoption cycle.

Action taken on each item:

The First grade field trip to the zoo was approved with little discussion.

In an effort to make sure everyone in the building was clear about the two Harcourt adoption samples, it was decided that Mr. Gatliff would send an email explaining that there were two samples sent to the school from Harcourt.  The 2002 copyright was on the state bid list, the 2004 copyright was not.  The Curriculum Committee thought we should adopt the 2002 copyright, assuming there were no major concerns raised by any grade level or teachers.  The staff was asked to send any concerns to the Curriculum Committee by Friday, March 4th, 2005.  The committee agreed that if no concerns were received by that date, Mr. Gatliff in his role as PSA and Math Representative would go ahead and begin preparing the purchase orders for these materials, once approved by SBDM, if required.
