Agenda:

  1. Development of Curriculum / Instruction Policy
  2. Review referrals for ESS after school reading and math program

Discussion on each item:

  1. The committee reviewed and discussed a curriculum and instructional policy from another elementary school in the district.  The committee felt that while the example had some meaningful components that the example was much too detailed for a policy.  Specifically, the committee felt that the policy should not be a listing of “best instructional practices.” The consensus of the committee was that the policy should be a very precisely written statement.
  2. Veronica Covington, ESS Coordinator, reported on the referrals that had been received for the after-school reading and math services. At this point, 29 students had been referred for services and 8 teachers had applied for teaching positions. Within the next few days, parents will receive a letter of permission in anticipation of the program beginning October 18 and ending November 29.

Action taken on each item:

The committee would like the opportunity to review some additional examples of Curriculum and Instructional Policies. The committee will reconvene October 19 to review additional examples and to begin writing a policy for Stonewall.
