Regina Adams presented an ESS issue.
Our ESS proposal allocated two teachers for 16 sessions each for fifth
grade. Fifth grade teachers have
planned to have a reading/math class that Teresa Moore will be teaching,
assisted by Beth Roseland. They
recommend that the remaining funds (the difference between the assistant’s
salary and a teacher’s salary) be used for an additional reading class.
The Committee approved this recommendation by consensus.
A teacher has applied for the reading position.
Because the ESL Committee is a subcommittee of Curriculum,
Shayla Mettille shared that an ESL student had been placed in first grade upon
entering Stonewall and it was soon discovered that the student had not completed
kindergarten. After following steps
outlined in SBDM policy, Mr. McCaw moved the student from first grade to
kindergarten at the end of the first nine weeks.
Kindergarten is the appropriate placement for this child.
We thanked Janice Duncan for her work on the Field Trip
Request Form that she completed after seeking input from the committee.
