Curriculum
Committee
Meeting
of 3-4-03
Members
present: Eileen Haggard, Shayla
Mettille, Sue Clark, Becky Horine, Leslie LeBlanc
- A
query was made by the math rep. via e-mail as to where we stand with math
textbook adoption. Since last
fall we agreed to wait until next fall when textbook adoption comes up for
math. Consensus was that we
keep the same text and order as soon as we can next year.
Sufficient curriculum math materials are on hand to begin the 2003-04
year.
- Report
Cards: Grade level
recommendations were made last month. However,
1st grade wants to revisit their proposal.
They would like to go to something besides grades--to recreate a
report card in all major skill areas. This
would perhaps be developmentally appropriate for children than grades,
according to the 1st grade. Teachers
would still have grades, but not give them to parents. Concern was voiced
that without grades it would be difficult to show that standards are being
met. Also, grades communicate "level". We will check with Mr.
McCaw as to where this issue goes now.
- First
grade does not support STI; other grade levels do. In general the committee
does.
- Value
of conferencing with parents was stressed--many positives.
- PSPs
(Personal Service Plans) for current ESL students are ready for ESL
Subcommittee approval after the next faculty meeting.
