Curriculum Committee

Meeting of February 4, 2003

Members Present:  Kim Sponcil, Eileen Haggard, Stacie Musgrave, Shayla Mettille, Sue Clark, and Leslie LeBlanc

We discussed the proposal to change the report card.  Everyone maintained that it is necessary to put the level on the report card.  The first grade representative said there was discussion among the first grades that they might prefer to have a check sheet similar to kindergarten.  However, that was negated after some discussion; grades are still preferred for first grade.

STI and automated grades were reviewed.  Reference was made to Ms. Banton's positive presentation on her use of STI at the last faculty meeting. Mrs. Haggard also showed us several capabilities of the program on the laptop in a review of her voluntary use of STI this year.  One benefit is that the system averages grades; teacher inputs individual grades.  During parent conferences, missing assignments can be shown. The attendance is automatically printed by STI.  A consensus was reached that STI is much simpler than the formerly used EXCEL.

Committee members would like the STI to be used as our school report; however, we recommended many changes to the format.  Some examples are: Levels should be specified.   Comments are needed in each subject area.  How can we get announcements?  We would prefer not to use computer-generated announcements, but would rather type in or write our own comments. The committee recommended that the STI report go back to grade level for discussion and consensus.
