| Stonewall Elementary School was opened in 1961.
Since then, the facility has had a major addition and a complete
renovation. The school is located at 3215 Cornwall Drive in the center
of Stonewall subdivision. The learning environment at Stonewall has
always been characterized by high student achievement, high teacher
expectations, and parental involvement.
In the spring of 1995, the Fayette County
Board of Education designated Stonewall to become a magnet school as
part of the overall redistricting plan to take place in the 1997-98
school year. In March, 1996, Stonewall was approved to become a
Traditional Magnet School. This choice was made with input from the
faculty, parents, and SBDM Council. In the spring of 2003, the
Board decided that Stonewall would not longer be a magnet school, but
operating policies and philosophy will remain essentially the same.
Stonewall entered into school-based decision
making in 1992. The SBDM Council has been instrumental in continuing
Stonewall's tradition of academic excellence and parental involvement.
The PTA is actively involved in Stonewall
School. Each year, they sponsor such events as Open House, Winterfest,
Art Fair/Pizza Supper, and several family fun nights. The PTA puts
together the yearbook, pops popcorn on the last day of each month
(Spirit Day) for all classes, and does a thousand different things
that help to make Stonewall special.
Our Academic Team and Chess Team have
participated in and won many competitions. Their many
trophies are displayed in our trophy case in the the front hall. |
