A note from Susan…

Well, this promises to be a very busy month at Stonewall.  There are many activities coming up, so I encourage you to read the newsletter very carefully so you don’t miss anything.  There will also be many opportunities to volunteer, so check out the PTA communications board in the front hallway to sign up or contact any PTA board member and they can put you in touch with the right person.  I want to take a minute to publicly express gratitude to all those who have already volunteered in some capacity.  Our school has excellent parent support.  There are so many of you putting in hours of time behind the scenes, as well as out in front.  The result of this time shows everyday in the hallways on the faces of your children.  We are definitely blessed at Stonewall to have such awesome community spirit.  Have a great month and I hope to see you at the next PTA meeting which will be held on October 28th at 7 p.m. in the library immediately following the Health and Safety Fair.

Thanks again for your support,

Susan Honican, PTA President

Notice

                                                Fire Prevention Week

October 6th – 12th

The Lexington Fire Department is sponsoring a fire prevention awareness campaign during the first week of October.  The program will kick off with the annual parade on Monday, October 6th beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Main Street.  Before the parade there will be a festival in Cheapside Park next to the old Fayette County Courthouse.  The festival will run from 5 – 7 p.m.  We will have food, drinks, inflatable rides, and other family fun.  Be sure to join us and stop by Fayette Mall throughout the week and visit our display at the main entrance.  As always, we will have important tips on how to keep your family safe!

Kids Helping Kids!

Have you ever wanted to help other people in need?  Here is your chance!  Mrs. Melton’s 5th grade class has finished reading an article about UNICEF, and the work it has done around the world assisting people in serious need.  We want to take part in helping these people by organizing a month long UNICEF fundraiser in our school.  We plan to collect pennies, but we will accept any other denominations of change.  It will begin on September 30th and end on October 31st.

All of the students and staff can participate in this event.  The boxes will be in each homeroom.  They will also be found in the office, lunchroom, bookstore, teachers’ lounge and Farmer’s Market.  The money will be collected and counted every day at 2:00 p.m.  Please take this opportunity to help people less fortunate.

Thank You!                 Mrs. Melton’s 5th Grade Class

What in the world is “Wonders of the Woodlands?”

Well, we are glad you asked!  “Wonders of the Woodlands” is a great program where families learn about animals from around the world, listen to stories and enjoy refreshments together.  This year, students from the La Fayette Drama Club will be “dressing up” as various international animals and sharing their stories with people as they “walk” through the woodlands.  There will also be great storytelling by Mr. Hardy.  This fun family event will be held on October 24th from 6:00 -9:00 p.m.  The cost of admission is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for school children.  All money earned goes to Buckley Wildlife and Stonewall Elementary.

We also need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up and various activities.  Donations of snacks and beverages will also be needed.  If you would be interested in helping, please contact Susie Holman at 223-7868 before 8:30 p.m. or 421-7033 after 8:30 p.m.  Thanks for your support and we hope to see in the Woodlands!
